BE VISIBLE.
With the challenges that we face daily, additional attention is the last thing that most of us want, but believe it or not visibility is the greatest tool we have in providing help to our children with autism.
The numbers of families affected by autism are growing exponentially… yet, within our local communities access to resources is not readily available. That is why we need your help. We are asking families affected by autism to make your presence known in the community. You are the most valuable resource for another family touched by Autism. You are an immediate source of encouragement to those needing guidance, information, and access to local help for our children. Being visible is the greatest tool we have in helping our families.
BE VOCAL.
It is our responsibility to remove the stigma that an “autism” diagnosis has placed on our children. Our communities need to be educated about our children’s strengths and challenges. They must also understand our children’s needs and desire for more inclusive worship, play, and education. Change can and will come…but we must be the voice.
BELIEVE.
Never underestimate the power of expectation in shaping your child's life. Choose to operate in the belief that there is a life of independence and wholeness beyond this current circumstance. By doing so, you will expect greater effort from everyone your child encounters. You will expect respect. You will expect opportunities. You will expect inclusion. You will expect acceptance. Make a commitment today to be visible...to educate…to advocate…to network…to support.
You don’t have to be radical or extreme, you just need to function with intent and purpose. If its wearing a tee shirt, sporting a tote bag, carrying a key chain, using a bumper sticker, creating a support group, making accomodations at your church, providing respite…whatever you choose…choose to make a difference.
WE INVITE All who want to show support to...
Allow autism support groups or seminars to gather at your business or church, request a speaker for sensitivity training, sponsor a shopping spree, free coffee, a spa day, golf outing, gym membership to the families in your community or your workplace that carry such tremendous stress and responsibilities daily. Do something to let them know you that they are supported by the community and your organization. It helps to know we are not forgotten.
